Totesport

Overview

ToteSport is a bookmaker with a long association with betting, in particular, “the tote” (as it’s better known at the track) is synonymous in the UK with betting on horse racing, having been established in 1928 by the UK government to offer a safe alternative to the shady bookmakers that were operating at that time. ToteSport is still controlled by the UK government, who decided at the end of 2008 not to privatise it, at least not in the near future.

Betting Extras

The tote has shops all around the UK and have a presence at every horse racecourse. Though ToteSport are focused on horse racing, they offer bets on a wide variety of sports, just as you would expect from a top bookmaker. That said, if horses are your thing, you can’t do much better than using tote. There are lots of tools that Totesport provide, from racing form and tips provided by the Racing Post to audio coverage of races.

The deposit options at ToteSport are not as wide as are available at some bookmakers, but it does take all of the mainstream options including VISA and Mastercard. ToteSport have in recent years added to their bookmaking business to bring their members an online casino and online bingo and once you’ve joined, you can use the same account to access these additional services.

Currently we’ve managed to arrange for new customers that sign up with ToteSport Casino to join their VIP program directly into level 2 (ToteSport VIP offer). This gives players enhanced bonuses, but also gives you access to a VIP account manager! Though this offer is for ToteSport Casino, as weve noted above, your ToteSport account works across the site and so you can get these perks for the bets you place too.

Is it safe?

You can take some comfort from the history and control of the tote (as explained  earlier, above),  and that ToteSport are not making profits for their shareholders/owners (they don’t have any – which is a quirk of how they were set up). Instead, ToteSport re-invest a significant chunk of their profits back into the racing industry; according to their latest published accounts, Tote put over £10m back into racing, approximately half through sponsoring races, and the other half through payments to racecourses.
