Sterling Silver 3D is Microgaming’s first 3D slot machine that they’ve released. It’s based on the already popular Sterling Silver Slot, only they’ve made it 3 dimensional. In order to play, you’ll need some 3D glasses (the old school red and blue kind, rather than the more modern sunglasses type you get at the cinema these days), but if you’re signed up to a Microgaming casino, they should have sent you some in the post :)

It’s a pretty cool effect, for the first 2 minutes, but I’ve been playing it for a while now, and to be honest, it’s making me feel a bit unwell. Combining that with the need to fish out the 3D glasses whenever you want to play, leads me to think that this is a gimmick that’s not going to take off just yet – perhaps it will once we have proper ‘glasses-less’ 3D screens (as have already been released in Nintendo’s 3DS game console), and are more used to watching things in 3D, but I don’t think online slots are ready for this just yet. Either that or they need to develop a version that doesn’t make me feel car-sick.

    Gameplay

As we’ve said above, the game is basically the same as Sterling Silver, just in 3D. There are 5 reels and 25 paylines, and you can play from £0.01 per spin, up to £62.50 (max 250 coins at a maximum coin value of £0.25).

Wild – The Sterling Silver symbol is wild, and can substitute for any other symbol apart from the scatter symbol. The wild also has a random multiplier, from x2 up to x10 displayed over it. If it is used to complete a line, then this multiplier is applied.

Scatter – 3 silver coins, anywhere on reels 2,3 & 4 will trigger a scatter win of x10 the total bet on that spin, plus it will activate 15 free spins, which can be re-triggered.

Gamble – You can gamble your wins via a card game where you try to predict the colour or suit of the card to either double or quadruple your win.

    Conclusion

Not a fan of the 3D technology, though it is worth a quick look just to satisfy your curiosity. It is kind of cool, but it feels more like a gimmick rather than a technological improvement that genuinely improves the gameplay experience. We much prefer the normal, 2D version of this slot, and we’ll be sticking to that for now.
