Sparta is a video slot from Playtech that’s been around since 2009. Although they missed the release of the 300 film, those of you who have seen it, will recognise the theme, though they’ve left out other film references (presumably so they don’t get done for breach of copyright).
As noted above, the theme is the ancient Greek city-state of Sparta, with symbols representing soldiers, swords, a great big arrow catapult (or ballista) and somewhat oddly, an ancient Greek jug. The game itself is pretty basic, with the only extra features being a free-spins round and an expanding wild.
Sparta has 5 reels and 30 paylines that can be activated. You can bet from £0.01 up to £1 on each line, resulting in a maximum spin value of £30. The expanding wilds are a great feature, and you’ll often get symbols counting towards several paylines with these. It is particularly rewarding if you get more than one appearing in the game area! (Can appear on reels 2,3 and 4)
Free spins are triggered by 3 or more scatter symbols – which will award you 15 free spins each time & these can be re-triggered during this feature. As an added bonus, you’ll automatically get an expanding wild on each spin, and each free spin also has a x2 multiplier applied to it.
You can also gamble any wins that you get via the Gamble feature (click the button next to spin). As with other Playtech games, here you can choose to either double, double half or to collect. In order to win, you need to pick a higher card than the dealer’s – you can continue for as long as your luck holds out or you hit the limit of £1,000.
I actually find this one quite an enjoyable slot to play, though that’s probably because the first few times I played it, the free spins feature hit a couple of times, making it a particularly rewarding experience. That said, we all know, that some days you hit lucky whilst other days will see you burn through your balance with not much to show for it at all, but once you get 2 expanding wilds appearing together (particularly on reels 3 & 4), you’ll get hooked too.
