    Siberian Storm is the latest IGT slot (formerly Wagerworks) to be released in the instant play format. This follows on from the game’s success in land based casinos over the last year or so. So, what’s all the fuss about? Well, read this review and find out!

    Gameplay

    The first thing that hits you when you load up Siberian Storm, is that the play area looks different. Instead of the usual 5 symbols per reel normally found on a video slot, this puppy has 5 only on the inner reel, 4 on the next two out from the centre and in the outer reels there are only 3 symbols.

    Not only that, but like a few Microgaming slots, they’ve scrapped paylines. According to IGT, there are 720 different ways to make a winning combination. We didn’t fancy counting all of them, so we’ll take their word that there are!

    These come in the format of the catchily named MultiWay Xtra Awards. Ooo, what’s that then? It’s probably easier to see it in play (if you want to skip direct to playing then you can click here), but we’ll summarise it here using some nifty bullet points.

    • Winning combinations can be made either left to right OR right to left;
    • The paytable winning values are multiplied by your coin value for that spin;
    • Wins are awarded for the numbers of symbols appearing in adjacent columns (no need to line them up since there aren’t any paylines).
    • Two or more of the winning symbols on one of the reels used to make a winning combination means you will be awarded a multiplier for that win (e.g. 2 on one reel will give you a x2 bonus).
    • Only the highest value winning combination for each symbol is paid out on each spin.

    Betting Values

    You also don’t have a choice on the number of coins per spin – this is fixed, and only your coin value can be changed. At Virgin casino (see also Virgin Casino Review), the minimum coin value is just £0.01, giving you a minimum bet of just 50p, going up to a max per spin of £150.

    Symbols

    The main symbols in Siberian Storm are tiger based, though there are some odd horn looking things.

    Special Symbols

    • Wild – This will substitute for any symbol in the game apart from the other ‘special’ symbols listed here.
    • Scatter – Cleverly marked with the word scatter, this symbol pays x2 the bet for any 3 appearing, x 10 for 4 symbols and if you’re lucky enough to get 5 scatter symbols appearing, you’ll get 50x your bet for that spin.
    • Free Spins – We’ve covered this below, it’s a tiger’s eye, and 5 are worth 50 in the paytable.

    Free Spins

    Siberian Storm has a great free spins feature, though it can be difficult to trigger. The orange tiger’s eye appearing on all 5 reels will award you with 8 free spins, though multiple combinations will be counted as extra, with up to a maximum of 96 free spins being awarded on that initial spin.

    During the free spins mode, all the symbols change, but this is merely cosmetic as they have the same values in the paytable. Free spins can be re-triggered via the white tiger’s eye symbol, again with one on each of the 5 reels being required to do so. The feature ends when no more spins are left, or when the maximum of 240 free spins have been spun.

    Summary

    Siberian Storm is certainly different. Its tigers can munch through your purse, and getting 4 out of 5 ‘eyes’ for the free spins can be incredibly frustrating . That said, it has a 96% long term RTP and when you do hit big, it’s exciting, particularly due to the way things tend to start adding up with multipliers and the like.
