Based on the film of the same name, Jurassic Park is one of the latest additions to Microgaming’s stable of slots based on big name film franchises. It uses characters from the film as well as several dinosaurs as the symbols in the game. 5 of a kind will also trigger a short montage of clips from the film itself.
The slot uses the now commonplace 243 ways to win, rather than having specific playlines activated. If you’ve not come across this before, all it means is that you just need to get matching symbols on adjacent reels (from left to right) in order to get a winning combination
Free spins are triggered by three or more of the mosquito trapped in amber symbol. Each free spins feature awards you 12 free spins at a time. Initially, the computer will select one of the features at random for you to play, but after you have played free spins 25 times you’ll get to choose yourself. The features are based on different dinosaurs from the film:
Tyrannosaurus Rex – The T-Rex may appear and turn up to 5 reels wild. Free spins cannot be retriggered if you select this feature.
Velociraptor – Wild symbols appearing will split in two, meaning that potentially you can get 6 of a kind wins. There are also wilds with multipliers attached of x4, x5 or x6. Free spins cannot be retriggered if you select this feature.
Triceratops –This features ‘running wilds’ which means that basically the length of the stack of wilds on a reel extends by one after each spin. On any spin that doesn’t produce a winning combination, any ‘full’ stacks of wild symbols will hold, partial wild reels will ‘nudge’ to form full rolls and then any remaining reels will spin again once. Free spins cannot be retriggered if you select this feature.
Brachiosaurus – A mystery multiplier applies during this feature of x2, x3, x4, x5 or x6. As a plus point, in the Brachiosaurus feature, free spins can be retriggered.
Dilophosaurus – Random symbols will be turned wild. If they complete a winning symbol during that spin, they’ll be held as long as they continue to do so. Free spins cannot be retriggered if you select this feature.
This is a special mode activated at random. If a T-Rex is ‘sighted’, the game adds an additional 35 wild symbols to the reels for ‘6 paid for spins’ (to exclude free spins).
We didn’t really come across the T-Rex Alert during our play, but hit the free spins feature plenty of times. It’s all somewhat a matter of choice, but there are some good wins to be had in these. For example in the Dilophosaurus feature, if you get a couple of wilds lining up at the left hand side of the playing board (on reel 2 and 3) at an early point in your spins, they will stay there because they’ll always complete a winning combination.
