Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven is a Playtech slot based on the jockey’s legendary performance on Champion’s Day at Ascot in September of 1996 where he won all seven races on the schedule!
The layout of the slot is the standard 5 reels that most video slots have nowadays. There are up to 25 paylines that can be activated within the game and the bet can be changed from $0.01 per line, up to $50 – giving a max bet of $1,000!
The symbols use the standard card symbols for the lower values, with the use of various horse racing and Frankie Dettori symbols for the higher value and ‘special’ symbols.
Wild Symbol – A close up of Frankie Dettori’s face acts as the wild symbol and if you’re lucky enough to hit 5 on a payline, it pays out a massive 7,777x the line bet!
Scatter/Free Games Symbol – This is the game’s logo – 3 or more of these appearing in the playing area activates the free games feature – more on that later in this review.
Bonus Symbol – A racetrack symbol appearing anywhere on reels 1 AND 5 will activate the bonus game feature.
The bonus game is the familiar ‘Pick one of these things to win a prize’ style feature. The board is set out like a horse racing track and you click to reveal sections of this. Uncover cash prizes and trophies, and hitting a trophy will result in you being shown a short clip of one of the 7 wins that gave their name to this slot, and more importantly as a player, will increase the multiplier applied to this round by 1. Reveal a ‘Collect’ symbol and the round is over and you’ll be returned to the main game.
As noted earlier, this is activated by the appearance of 3 or more scatter symbols on screen. This will then take you to a horse race – the horse that you pick will determine how many free spins that you are awarded – pick the winner and you’ll get 35 free spins, come in in last place and you’ll only get 10.
Also, although more wild and scatter symbols are activated within the free spins, a point to note is that the bonus game (see above) can’t be triggered from within a free spins round and the free spins can’t be re-triggered.
The autospin feature is very basic – as far as we could tell, only enabling a number of spins to run through to be set although you can adjust the number spins whilst this is running by clicking on the +/- buttons (increments of 10 spins).
There is also a ‘gamble wins’ feature taking the form of a higher/lower style card game. You can either gamble your whole pot, or just half and can continue on up to a limit of $2,500 (although this might vary from casino to casino or if you have higher playing limits).
Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven is a jack of all trades. What do we mean by that? Well, because you can set the bet per line so low, if you’re just looking for a slot to pass the time, you can play for quite a while on a relatively low budget.
On the flip side, given how high you can jack up the line bet, together with some of the win multiples that are on offer, if you’re looking for a big win, this slot has a lot of potential. Put that all together with reasonably pleasant (albeit not cutting edge) graphics and the reputability of most Playtech casinos, this is certainly a slot worth trying out – so go on, give it a go!
