2007-07-19

According to comScores MediaMatrix latest internet rankings of American online activities, online radio was the largest gainer by far in traffic – up 34% from May to 48.9 million unique visitors per month. The biggest single site was Yahoo music with an 11% gain to 25 million visitors. Yahoo also lead comScores ranking of top online property with a whopping 133 million unique visitors.

The second leading category in traffic gains was gay/lesbian sites – coinciding with June being Pride Month – with a 23% raise to 3 million unique visits. Making huge strides, online gaming came in third place in traffic gains with a 13% increase to 12.4 million unique visitors. Much of this traffic was credited to the then-upcoming 2007 World Series of Poker -  backed up by the fact that PokerStars was the categorys leader.

AOLs Advertising.com once again headed the ad network rankings for the 38th straight month – garnering 88% of the U.S. online audience. Yahoo fell behind Valueclick in the category to third place. Expedia.com re-entered the top 50, resting at number 48 – with 11% of the online audience.

With schools letting out, younger-marketed gaming and entertainment sites saw larges rises. IGN Entertainment – up 17%, Disney Games – up 38% and entertainment news site TMZ – up an astonishing 37%, all profited from the younger demographic. TMZs biggest rise came, not surprisingly, during the Paris Hilton-jail soap opera.

The top gaining individual property in June was the World Wrestling Entertainment sites, which spiked an astonishing 117% - to 8.4 million unique visitors due to the deaths of wrestler Chris Benoit and his family.
