Review by Oggs.com
Paddy Power Casino has recently* changed over their software provider to Playtech, so we thought it would be a perfect time for us to revisit our review of their online casino. Whilst some things have changed (as well as the software, they’ve taken the time to completely re-do their website), other things, like their reputation and reliability have not. UK based players will be familiar with Paddy Power, though probably more for their reputation as a bookie (that’s a sportsbook for everyone else not from the British Isles).
Often on a players mind when they first come to a new casino, Paddy Power is as reliable as they come. Kicking off with the licencing, the casino is licenced by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, who also regulate other household names such as Sky and Virgin’s online casinos. This is also one of the so called “Whitelist” jurisdictions, that are considered to offer a similar level of protection to their players as if they were licenced by the official regulator in the UK.
Security for financial transactions is via SSL, similar to what you might find at a bank (it’s not quite at the same level, since the banks tend to have ‘extended validation’, but the level of encryption is the same – at 128 bits).
Finally, there is something intangible that you get with playing at a household name. They certainly have a reputation to uphold, and with physical shops that you can go visit (and withdraw instantly from – more on that later in the review), you do feel more comfortable about depositing your hard earned cash here than at some of the more, shall we say, intangible online casinos out there.
As noted in our introduction to this review, Paddy Power now utilises Playtech’s software for both their download and instant play casinos. Here’s a really good video from Paddy Power talking you through their new download casino, and all the great new features that it includes
They used to use IGT (formerly Wagerworks) but don’t worry, if you still want to play games such as Rainbow Riches, you can head on over to their ‘Games’ tab and they’re all still there & available to play.
This takes us to the other benefit of signing up to Paddy Power – they are a comprehensive gaming provider with sportsbook, poker, live dealers, bingo, mobile and more and all of this can be accessed through a single account login as is standard with these types of operations.
As you would expect, all the major payment methods are present here (credit/debit cards, PayPal, NETeller, etc…) Payment processing times are presented rather nicely in the cashier, though annoyingly, it doesn’t tell you how long withdrawals take until you have added the deposit method to your account, which can make it tricky to decide to go for one over the other.
Whilst we’ve not tried all of them, there are 3 withdrawal options activated by default;
- Cash – this is immediate as you can make withdrawals from your account by walking into any Paddy Power shop in the UK. Though it does mean that you have to go there, it might suit you a lot better than waiting, particularly since there are loads of branches around (Paddy Power shop locator).
- Bank Transfer – this will take anywhere between 1-5 working days to clear into your account – pretty standard really
- Cheque – this is never going to be the quickest method, since not only will you have to wait for them to process and for it to arrive, you then have to get to the bank and wait for the cheque to clear – refreshingly old school though. Dispatch within ~2-3 working days, then similar period to clear
In addition to the above methods;
- Credit/Debit cards – as per the FAQ, these methods take 2-3 working days to clear
- PayPal – we had a problem with this method when writing the review. However, after a bit of investigating, turns out it was down to an issue between PayPal and our Bank and nothing to do with Paddy Power!
Promotions are constantly being updated (For the latest promotions, click here), but thanks to the funky interface, once you’re logged in, you’ll see a tailored page of deals just for you – it’s pretty cool, check out the video below…
As you’d expect from an established and reputable company like Paddy Power, support is pretty good. We tested their phone support, and they answered within just a couple of rings and were very helpful and friendly – nicely done! E-mail support is pretty good too, with them getting back to our query in just over an hour.
In addition to the above, there are other options for getting help. First up, there is an FAQ section, which has many of the more common answers, next there is a Live Chat option, where you can instant message one of their staff, and you can always use the old fashioned fax or post options too.
Paddy Power is a solid casino to play at. Not only are you getting the peace of mind of a household name, you’re also getting great customer service and a wide range of gambling options (catering to most people’s tastes). Can’t really go too far wrong here, so if you’ve not tried them already, head on over there now & give Paddy Power a go!
