Blue Square are a household name in the betting world, but they also have an excellent online casino (and more) which we’ve reviewed below.
Licencing and Security
Blue Square is licenced in Alderney. This is one of the ‘Whitelist’ jurisdictions that have been approved by the Department of Media, Culture and Sport as being considered to offer a similar level of protection to the player as if it had been licenced in the UK (the tax is less in Alderney which is why most UK casinos are licenced out of the UK).
Account transactions are encrypted as we have all come to expect these days. In addition, there is a non-tangible sense of security that a familiar brand brings, in that you recognise it and extend some trust, much more so than a brand that you’ve never heard of before that has to earn it the hard way. Blue Square has that ‘trust factor’ and its parent company runs other well-known brands such as Mecca Bingo and G Casinos.
There’s no downloadable casino here since they use Wagerworks to power their games. This is part of the same company (IGT) that provides many of the electronic gaming machines in Las Vegas, meaning you’ll get to play on many favourites such as Cleopatra, Enchanted Unicorn and Wolf Run.
Blue Square is first and foremost a bookmaker. This shows in that the homepage is set up with a wide range of sports and odds for the latest events. This doesn’t mean that their casino is second rate, more that if you decide to play there you’ll have access to a wide range of gambling services that the majority of online casino operations are unable to provide.
In addition to these services, there are live dealers, poker & bingo clients, skill games, virtual sports and an award winning mobile service which includes both a casino and mobile betting (EGR awards 2010).
The options are limited here – Blue Square only takes credit/debit cards, NETeller, Moneybookers and UKash, though most people have access to one of these.
The support that’s available is very good. Quick to answer the phone, though there are quite a lot of options to get through (but these don’t take too long) and fast to respond to e-mails too. The team are available 24/7 and have separate points of contact for Sports betting, Casino and Poker queries. The team can be reached through the standard options of e-mail, free-phone and mail, plus live chat is available.
Blue Square is an excellent all round gambling site, and considering casino isn’t even their main focus, they’re doing a great job of it. Certainly one to try, particularly if you’re interested in more than just a casino.
