World Cup Semi-Final 2014

The second World Cup semi-final, on Wednesday night, pits Argentina and Holland in a repeat of the epic 1998 Quarter-Final which saw the Dutch advance, only to lose on penalties to beaten finalists Brazil. Of course if only David Beckham hadn’t kicked out at Simeone in the Round of 16, it would have been England who faced the Dutch and we’d have surely gone on to win the World Cup.
It was a game that had everything. Kluivert (now part of the Dutch coaching team) struck on 12 minutes, before Lopez equalised five minutes later. Numan and Ortega were sent off in the final quarter of an hour in separate incidents.
The game however is best remembered for the extraordinary last minute winner from Dennis Bergkamp, whose touch and skill to control and then finish a searching 70-yard ball from Frank De Boer was nothing short of mesmeric. Argentina had no time to respond.
Robben is the most likely to repeat the feat of Bergkamp from the current squad and he looks a fair price at 7/1 with Bet365 to open the scoring. Though we quite like the 11/5 Paddy Power offer on Holland scoring first and not winning the game in 90 minutes. It could be another long evening.
The smart money is seemingly with Argentina who are 8/11 with Ladbrokes to make the final. This whole World Cup looks set to have featured an Argentina v Brazil final and we’re not going to go weak at the knees now. The final may not have Neymar but it should have Messi. Back Argentina to qualify.
