The number of teams left in Brazil has been halved and in five days time it’ll be halved again as the elite of world football, as well as Costa Rica and Algeria hope to make it to the final eight.
If we believe reports there are more people tuned into Iran v Bosnia than Superbowl over in the States as they celebrate the festival of football which has seen the USA impressively navigate their way into the last 16. They face a Belgium side that has yet to really live up to the hype and we’ll side with our hard working athletic ‘soccer friends’ to shock the Europeans. Back them to advance at 15/8 with bet365.
Ze Germans always seem to be there or thereabouts at major tournaments and they couldn’t have asked for more than a last 16 tie against Algeria. Whilst impressive against a poor Korea side, Russia offered so little it’s hard to assess just how good Algeria are. We suspect they’ll fall short but may score against Germany. Back Germany to win but both teams to score at 21/10 with Ladbrokes.
Until their frustrating 0-0 draw with Ecuador, France were being talked up as genuine contenders but our feeling is that Holland and Germany provide Europe’s biggest threats. Nigeria showed attacking flair against France and we suspect it may take Les Blues more than 90 minutes to advance. We’re more confident of goals and will back over 3.5 at 9/4 with bet365.
Argentina have relied on the genius of Messi to win all their group games and there’s no reason to think it won’t happen again. The Swiss rolled over a weak Honduras team and only started playing at 5-0 down to France but they’ve showed enough to suggest they’ll make a fight of this. Goals seem the way to go again and Messi to score at least twice at 10/3 at bet365 is our pick.
