Lets all climb Robson’s Ridge

Wake up Britain!!! Time…for you to fall in love with tennis for another fortnight, as middle England camps out in SW19, desperately hoping the now lovable pup Andy Murray can end the wait for a British Wimbledon Champion.

Murray of course did win Olympic Gold here last year, having fallen agonisingly short in the previous month’s Wimbledon final (he took the first set only for Federer to step up a gear and win the next three). The Scot has been well backed in the last week following success at Queens, and is now just a 4.7 shot with Betfair. Murray has certainly done enough in recent years to show that if he peaks, he’ll beat his fellow top class players on home turf. We’ll be backing him at that price.

In the Women’s we can do nothing but stick with the lass who successfully helped our French Open tip come home. Serena Williams is a 1.55 shot on Betfair and whilst not an exciting price, it is a fair reflection of just how big a favourite she is, especially if you consider her 14-2 success rate against second favourite Maria Sharapova. If you’re looking for an outsider to get deeper into the tournament, consider Sabine Lisicki. Lisicki is one of the hardest hitting on the women’s circuit, made it to the semi-final in 2011 and is huge value to trade later, currently at 85 on Betfair.

There are a few other quirky markets worth exploring. One such bet we’d recommend is who will fire down the fastest serve of the Championship, and we really like the look of Canadian Milos Raonic. He thwacked a 155.3mph serve at the 2012 Rogers Cup and anything above 3/1 for him will be a good price. Sam Querry has the fastest ever Wimbledon serve of 141mph from 2009, and if you can get 8/1 or better on him we’d recommended a nibble in that direction too.
