US Open 2014

There’s a major sporting event taking place on the other side of the world and there’s chance of English success at 33/1. No, not the World Cup Folks, it’s the US Open Golf but quite whether Ian Poulter can win however remains to be seen. We’ve got four players for you to keep an eye on.

First up is Bubba Watson, the two-time Masters winner. He’s at 16/1 with Ladbrokes and demonstrated his genius with a master class in shot making and shaping the ball into difficult pin positions at Memorial two weeks ago. He just about tops all the driving stats we can see whilst there are few better around the greens. Get him on your side.

Our next selection is Jordan Spieth. Aged 20 he’s priced conveniently at 20/1 with Ladbrokes, which could look good value in a few days time. He showed just how well he can get the ball up and down in the Players Championship and no player has been amongst the top five positions on more occasions after 54 holes in tournaments this year. He’ll be fearless and should feel comfortable at Pinehurst.

Jimmy Walker is 55/1 with Bet365 but don’t let the big price put you off. He’s got one of the longest drives on tour whilst his ability to get high trajectory on his approaches should prove useful here. He’s already got three wins and seven top ten places this year to be number one in the Fedex Cup standings. He’ll be confident.

Finally get Charl Shwartzel on your side. The ability to combine length and accuracy will be key and few are better than the South African. When he’s on song he can tear courses apart and his recent form at Muirfield Village gave us enough belief he’ll go well this week.
