4 to Watch (Part 1)
Croatia vs Greece
Who wouldn’t be enthralled at the prospect of the Greeks entertaining the millions at another World Cup. Exactly. Fortunately enough, Croatia are pretty good at these play-offs having got through them in each of the four times they have needed to reach a major tournament via this route.
They finished just two points behind everyone’s favourites Iceland in Group I, and any midfield with Rakitic, Modric and Perisic should get to a Jules Rimet.
Greece themselves have reached the last two World Cups through the playoffs, and lost only once in qualifying (to Belgium). One thing worth pointing out in this tie is that no away fans will be allowed in either leg., due to trouble in a a Euro qualifier between the two teams in 2011 and some monkey business in a Dinamo Zagreb v PAOK Salonika Europa League match. We think Croatia will edge it over two legs, possibly on away goals. 1.3 on Betfair would be our tip.
Northern Ireland vs Switzerland
Having taken four points off the Czechs in qualifying, Northern Ireland will not fear the Swiss, who have been hyped up due to taking 27/30 points in their group. Despite a sprinkling of players across the Bundesliga and Serie A (most notably full backs Lichtsteiner and Rodriguez), we think Northern Ireland can pack a punch against them. The spine of the team have been together a long time, and this really will be the only chance many of these men will ever get of reaching a World Cup. Back the men in green at 3.75 with Betfair.
