Sagas set to become more tiresome than weather conversations
If you had said twelve months ago that not only would Harry Maguire be the subject of a £65m bid, but that most pundits thought he was good value at that, even the local nuthouse would bolt their doors. Yet here we are – Mourinho’s search for a centre-half that has previously seen Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof disappoint, now turns up at Leicester. Rumours of the bid seem solid enough, but it baffles us that Mourinho would sign a player on the basis of one good world cup match against Sweden. If he rated Maguire, why not put a bid in two months ago, and get him on the cheap. This smacks a little bit (particularly the public nature of it) as Mourinho trying to flush out another club selling a centre-back (hello Tottenham.) Toby Alderweireld’s age is far more becoming to the Jose signing pattern too. Hence we would tip Maguire to stay put, which is 5/6 with Paddy Power.
And as the Lord potentially giveth to Manchester United, so he must taketh in exchange. Mourinho seems happy to let him leave – this bizarre bust-up over the Frenchman going home for the birth of his child appears to have been contrived to justify an unpopular decision with supporters, particularly in light of Alexis Sanchez’s wholly underwhelming work since arriving at Old Trafford. We suspect Jose wont risk it however – the last thing he needs at a club known for nurturing youth is another de Bruyne or Salah on his hands. Take the 8/11 with Paddy Power on him being a remainer.
