Rugby League 2013

It’s a rare occasion in the city of Wigan when the football team have more recently won silverware than the Rugby League team, but due to Roberto Martinez’s FA Cup winning side, it is a surprising state of play.

However, if the bookies have it right the imbalance will be readdressed come the Rugby League Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 5th. With six games left of the 27 game season, Wigan Warriors are currently top of the table and overall favourites at 13/8 with Ladbrokes. They are closely chased by the Huddersfield Giants (a point behind) and Warrington Wolves (two points behind), who convincingly beat Wigan 24-12 just two weeks ago.

The top eight from the fourteen team division enter the Grand Final playoffs from where in both 2011 and 2012 Leeds Rhinos won despite finishing just 5th in the overall season. It’s part of a run of five successes for the Yorkshire club in the last six Championships. However the Leeds Rhinos in 2009 and Wigan in 2010 won after being 1st at the end of the season, so it’s not to be discounted.

What we’re looking for if we’re having a bet now, is form, and with the Huddersfield Giants having won seven of their last eight they look in great shape as we hit the end of the season. 13/2 with Bet365

seems an extremely fair price, certainly one that you can look to trade when they surely cruise to at least the final four.
