Super Sunday – Arsenal vs Everton
Our bet for this match is to back the Arsenal clean sheet at around 2.8 with Betfair, despite Everton scoring this season both at Old Trafford, and three times against Liverpool a week before.
Arsenal maintained their position at the Premier League’s summit with another solid ‘to-nil’ victory in midweek against Hull. While the attacking prowess of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud have been getting most of the plaudits this season, it is the Gunners’ new-found defensive solidity that has been the biggest improvement. In fact, the addition of Mathieu Flamini has arguably given Wenger’s boys more than Ozil has – Arsenal have been crying out for a ‘roll-your-sleeves-up/cut-the-
Wednesday’s game was their sixth clean sheet in seven games in all competitions, and their fourth in a row. Which amazingly leaves Arsenal with the meanest defence in the league – just 10 goals conceded from 14 games played. It is like George Graham is back!
This weekend’s game against Everton is the beginning of a run of four fixtures that could go a long way to defining Arsenal’s season – games against Napoli (A), Man City (A) and Chelsea (H) follow – and the onus for them must be on maintaining that solid backline, and relying on the lads further forward to come up with something a la Dortmund away. The Toffees are sure to provide a stern examination, but on home soil I think there is value in backing another clean sheet at odds of 2.8.
