Premiership Preview – 29th December 202

However bad your team’s Christmas was, all other football fans can console themselves with the fact that at least they are not following Aston Villa. But up until Saturday, at least Villa’s defeats had been against decent teams, yet after being humped by Wigan, alarm bells may now be sounding at Villa Park. Swansea are a funny team – neither fish nor foul – and it is never too clear exactly what one will get with them. (This could be a warm-up for the Carling Cup final although on current form, one has to like Bradford City to give Villa a tough time in the semis.) Yet it’s a new year, and who knows, maybe a new Villa. We like the away win, and Villa to finally turn the corner, at 6 on Betfair.
We also think the returning Gabriel Agbonlahor could get the winner off the bench, and like him to be the Last Goalscorer in this one.
Elsewhere on New Years Day, Reading travel to Tottenham, with both sides in good spirits after impressive weekend wins. Spurs away from home love playing counter-attacking football, but struggle to replicate this at the Lane. Nevertheless, they should have enough for Reading, but after a tiring festive period, we like under 2.5 goals at 2.32.
In a repeat of the 2011 FA Cup Final, Manchester City take on Stoke, this time at the Etihad rather than Wembley. Expect fewer goals than on an Aston Villa Goal of the Month competition for December. 1-0 City at 7.8 seems a lush price indeed.
