Boxing Day 4 to Watch
In this secular god-forsaken society of ours, Christmas is about television, and Boxing Day is about sport. Mainly football. And this year, in a wonderful perk of the calendar, we have ten Premier League fixtures on the same day, within about five hours of each other. Plus don’t forget kids, the bookie’s websites are even open over Christmas. Get right on it!
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace
A real festive feast this one, with the two worst passers of the ball going head-to-head at Villa Park. Palace may see a point as a decent return, with a huge match at home to Norwich still to come over the festive period. And with Villa goal-shy right now, particularly at home against teams who come to defend, we like the Under 1.5 at 3.15 with our friends at Betfair.
Chelsea vs Swansea City
After soaking up criticism for their defensive performance on Monday night, Jose Mourinho will be keen to put down an attacking marker, ahead of the Super Sunday meeting with Suarez FC. Swansea City looked knackered by the end of their own Merseyside Super Sunday last weekend against Everton, so we like Chelsea to win to zero at 1.89.
Manchester City vs Liverpool
The team that bullies everyone host the team that bullies feeble teams at home (and Spurs.) Liverpool lie top of the table courtesy of a kind fixture list that has yet to see them play the two best teams in the country, but of course, they have to at some point. Starting now. Back City at 1.79 – it is the bet of the day.
Tottenham Hotspur vs West Bromwich Albion
One of the great philosophical questions could be answered at White Hart Lane on Thursday – is it better to have no manager or be managed by Tim Sherwood? We reckon the former – lay Spurs at 1.55
