Premiership Preview – 24 October 2014

The European action in midweek saw some truly bizarre results, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Shakhtar Donetsk scoring seven goals on their travels whilst Arsenal got out of Belgium with an extraordinary ending to win a game they surely deserved to lose. Last weekend we saw Southampton smash eight past a sorry Sunderland side to show that just about anything is possible in football, especially when you sign Arsenal’s third choice goalkeeper to be your number one. Whatever can we expect this weekend?

First up we’ll stick with Sunderland and 1.65 on Betfair for them to beat Stoke seems a fair price. At home Koeman’s men have scored fourteen goals and conceded just one whilst Stoke’s theft of a victory against Swansea last weekend does little to suggest they can trouble a team on the South Coast which is absolutely flying. For those that like a bigger price, Southampton to lead at the break and win the game is 29/20 at Ladbrokes.

Crystal Palace are playing with a sense of freedom under Neil Warnock that wasn’t see under former boss Tony Pulis and their games have seen a surprising number of goals, which makes us shocked to see over 2.5 as the underdog. The Baggies have seen their last four games all go over 2.5 goals and we’ll be backing it to happen again at 2.12 on Betfair. We’ll have a small stake on over 3.5 at 3.85 on Betfair.

Arsenal have arguably only played well in one Premier League game this season (against a virus hit Aston Villa team) and with Sunderland still bruised from that 8-0 defeat last weekend this game is an intriguing prospect. As much as it’s a supposedly good time to play Sunderland, they will surely be far more compact this weekend and it could lead to an uninspiring game. We can’t see many goals and under 2.5 at 19/20 with Ladbrokes is our choice. 1-0 to Arsenal at 13/2 with Bet365 would be our correct score selection.

On Sunday Manchester United welcome Chelsea and given the current state of both teams it’s no surprise to see Mourinho’s men as 6/4 favourites with Bet365. Diego Costa seems unlikely to play which is a huge blow, but in Drogba or Schurrle, Mourinho will have a solution. Chelsea’s defence and midfield are strong enough to win this game and we’ll be backing the away side at 6/4. Eden Hazard to score at anytime at 31/10 with Ladbrokes is a bet we also like.
