Premiership Preview – 15 August 2014

The Premier League may have lost the best player it possessed in the summer of 2014, but this campaign will invariably have plenty of bite anyway. The Champions have strengthened, Mourinho’s little horse has been well fed over the summer whilst Arsenal and Manchester United will feel in better shape than twelve months ago. Liverpool will hope to repeat their surprise form of last season, whilst Spurs and Everton will harbour ambitions of top four football.

Van Gaal raises the curtain on his reign as Manchester United manager with a home tie against Swansea. United are huge 4/11 with Ladbrokes to win the game. The Red Devils should win the game, but Swansea’s improvements make us believe it won’t be as easy as their match odds suggest. We’ll select United to win after drawing at Half-Time at 3/1 with Paddy Power.

Spurs travel to West Ham for the first London derby of the season, looking to avenge three defeats against the Hammers last campaign. With a new manager on board, Spurs fans are optimistic the many players bought last season can finally show their worth. The Hammers have finally solved their issues up front, with Zarate set to play on Saturday. We think they can do enough to frustrate Spurs. We like the draw at 13/5 with Bet365.

Alexis Sanchez is likely to be unleashed on manager-less Crystal Palace when they visit Arsenal in the late Saturday kick off. Last season Palace were unfortunate to take nothing from two spirited displays against the Gunners last season which both went against them 2-0. One wonders what the spirit will be like without Pulis, but Palace will likely be well organised and aim to frustrate Arsenal. Arsenal will prevail but it may take a late goal or two. Under 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Ladbrokes and Draw HT Arsenal FT at 4.2 with Betfair both appeal.

Finally we’re going to back Manchester City to prove their worth when they travel to Newcastle on Monday night. They may have looked sluggish against Arsenal at Wembley last weekend but 4/6 with Bet365 on a victory in the North East looks good value on a team with so much attacking talent.
