Premier League Top Scorer

Robin Van Persie comes into the 2013/14 campaign looking to emulate his former strike partner Thierry Henry in completing three consecutive seasons as the number one marksman in the Premier League. Last season, the Dutchman couldn’t match his 30 goals of 2011/12, but his 26 goals was still the best haul by three strikes from Luis Suarez, who may have actually pipped RVP but for Bite-gate and the subsequent suspension.
Van Persie is as big as 9/2 on the high street and currently 5.0 with our mates at Betfair and how could we begin to put you off? If he stays fit, as he has done so in the last two seasons, then there’s little reason to think he won’t win it yet again. It is however a prohibitive price in such a wide market, so we’ll add a few other each way shots to our bets.
Olivier Giroud can be backed at 40/1 with most firms offering ¼ odds for the first four in the market. This looks generous. Having taken time to settle after a confidence sapping start to life at The Emirates the Frenchman ended the season in good form and has been on fire in pre season. He could easily get 20 goals this season and makes a great each way bet, even if Arsenal do sign Luis Suarez.
Someone in the top four of the scoring charts has come from a so called ‘unfashionable’ team in each of the last four seasons – namely, Benteke (Aston Villa), Dempsey (Fulham) and Bent twice (Sunderland). Our possible candidate for that slot this year has to be Nicolas Anelka, who is a former Premier League golden boot winner and has scored goals wherever he has been. With no European distractions for the Baggies a 100/1 price with Bet365 makes for a great each-way bet.
