Looters need not apply.
In the current financial crisis, it appears gold is just about the only commodity still retaining its value. Even your average Premier League footballer would be keen to have a boot made of the stuff. And here is our lowdown on who will snaffle this year’s version.
Amazingly, no English striker has top-scored in the top league for over a decade (Kevin Phillips did it in 1999/00). That is surely bad news for current favourite Wayne Rooney. Lay him at 9.6.
In addition, no striker from a club finishing outside the top four at the end of the season has been top scorer for a decade either, so unless you’re mentally deficient, or a close relative of Alec McLeish, it might not be a great idea to spill your cash on Darren Bent at 14.5 (Betfair).
Whilst many are tipping Robin Van Persie this season, the injury-prone Dutchman hasn’t competed in more than 28 games during any season in his entire time in North London. Consequently, you have to be wary of backing him outright, although consider him at 2.92 on Betfair to be amongst the top four finishers.
Our tip is Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan made an incredible adjustment to life in the top flight last season, and with Downing, Henderson and Adam creating chances for him, King Luis could reign come May. Back him at 12/1 with Bluesq.
