PDC World Darts Championship 2013

Der Der Der Der etc

Never mind the baby Jesus quite frankly; for worshippers at the Ally Pally every December, Christmas is all about the darts. And for those whom the Alexandra Palace is their church, Phil Taylor is their deity – 16 times a World Champion, including last year’s epic comeback against Michael van Gerwen.

Taylor starts as favourite of course (around just under evens with our friends at Betfair), with van Gerwen (4.9) and 2012 Champion Adrian Lewis (8.2) next in the betting. The Jackpot has been playing well since winning the European Championships in July but 2013 has undoubtedly been the year of MVG, with the Dutchman winning the Premier League and a dozen tour titles for good measure too. Just last month he defeated Taylor in the final of the Players Championship, showing that even in the Majors, he is now the man to beat

Surely therefore it is his time. Last year’s final collapse was just part of the necessary learning curve (just as Andy Murray suffered in the Wimbledon 2012 final before eventual redemption), and if the two meet again this time around, Taylor may well come second. Back MVG.

(N.B. We have no doubt the Power will reach the final. He is in the easy half of the draw, away from van Gerwen, Lewis, Wade, Barney and Gary Anderson.)

For those who fancy a back-to-lay bet, we like Kim Hybrechts (70), a wonderfully talented thrower of the arrows, but who has struggled previously on the big occasion.
