The Phoenix Coyotes came up just short in their bid to reach the NHL playoffs last season, finishing 10th in the Western Conference with 51 points in the lockout-shortened 48-game campaign. In the offseason, they finally found a new owner in IceArizona (after four years of being owned by the league) that will keep the team in Glendale thus at last establishing a level of stability, and that, along with a couple of notable off-season additions make them our back-to-lay tip this time around, priced at a very decent 85 with Betfair.
One of the biggest issues for the Coyotes in recent years was the lack of a No. 1 center who could consistently produce points both on the power-play and at even-strength. Mike Ribeiro will fill that void; a talented playmaking center with the ability to anchor the top line.
Phoenix already have a strong defense core and a quality goaltender in Mike Smith, so the addition of some scoring up front is the top priority. They managed to keep hold of key men Kyle Chipchura and Rob Klinkhammer, but also added a little bit more forward depth with the signings of Brandon Yip and Tim Kennedy. Both are solid young players that bring a little bit of everything and can also provide some secondary scoring playing anywhere from the second line to the fourth. This could be the final piece in the jigsaw for a Coyotes’ team who were lacking two-way depth players last season.
