So Good its Glorious

Ah Goodwood – a meeting so lovely that one positive adjective just isn’t enough. And here are the tips…

Day 1 – Lennox Stakes

This Group 2 race over seven furlongs is all about Toormore, the best two year old around in 2013, but who has struggled manfully in recent outings (2000 Guineas and the St James’ Palace Stakes. The sole Group 1 winner in the field, Toormore (2.14) hails from the Richard Hannon yard, who have won this race twice in the past six years (Paco Boy and Strong Suit.) He should fancy this distance more than his other outings at a mile, and he did win over course and distance twelve months ago in the Vintage Stakes.

Day 2 – Sussex Stakes

The new ‘duel on the downs’ as Toronado (3.15) goes head-to-head with Kingman. The former won here last year with Richard Hughes aboard, and subsequent illness looks to be behind him given the comfortable victory in the Queen Anne at Ascot last month. Meanwhile Kingman has only been beaten once in his past six races, although trainer John Gosden has never had a winner at Goodwood.

Day 3 – Richmond Stakes

The unbeaten Ivawood should have enough here to do the business over six furlongs.

Day 4 – King George Stakes

Over five furlongs, this is one for the real quick boys (and gals.) Pearl Secret disappointed in the Kings Stand at Ascot, but he is certainly one to keep an eye on. We however like Extortionist, the highest-rated three year old in the race.
