Plucky Underdogs Seek to End Long Trophy Drought etc
Some years, the FA Cup Final doesn’t really matter. The big three of Manchester x2 + Chelsea seemed to take the old boy for granted, as best displayed by City’s anaemic display against Wigan twelve months ago.
This year however it really does matter. It matters more than Juan Mata having a physics conversation with Stephen Hawking. For Hull City, the chance to become the only non-big4 club (other than Portsmouth) to win the FA Cup and survive in the same season, for almost two decades.
Yet for Arsenal (unusually for the FA Cup final favourites,) the prize is even bigger. Failure to win tomorrow would mean a decade of trophy-less gloom for Arsene Wenger, and might just tip a few impatient Gooners over the edge.
So that’s the background – what is going to happen? Well the great overlooked fact of Arsenal’s season is the influence of Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman who shot to fame in the 2008 FA Cup Final was undoubtedly the footballer of the year until his injury. Arsenal have yet to lose a fixture he started this calendar year. And it is with this in mind (and the comfortable way Arsenal strolled past Hull in the league a month ago,) that we heavily tip Arsenal.
Betfair offer a decent 7.6 on ‘any unquoted’, a score that would include Arsenal hitting four. Ramsey to score at any time (3.2) appears a nice side dish with that punt. Enjoy the Cup Final.
