FA Cup 3rd Round

4 to Watch

Paul Lambert may not fancy it much, but that is all the more reason for seasoned punters everywhere to get involved. Whereas in the Premier League, both teams will typically try their hardest, running around like little keenos, in the Greatest Cup Competition in the World ©, that is no longer the case. Here are four ties to consider with that in mind

Stoke City vs Leicester City

Stoke’s season already largely over, and nobody loved the FA Cup in the 80s/90s like Leslie Mark Hughes OBE (four winners medals with United & Chelsea.) Leicester by contrast are focused on promotion, and will calculate that by losing this one, they can play Stoke twice next season!!! What an incentive. At 2.2, Stoke are the bet of the weekend.

Sunderland vs Carlisle

A local derby, with Sunderland having a) a foreign manager b) a terrible team c) a Capital One Cup Semi two days later and d) being in a relegation battle. Ladbrokes offer 8/1 on Carlisle – take it!

Manchester United vs Swansea City

The Swans have enough pointless matches what with the Europa League, so even David Moyes should manage to navigate his way through this one. Take the 1.46 on a rare Old Trafford home win.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield United

Mind games from Lambert – the man is a genius. Expect a full-strength Villa to go at it hammer and tong against Sheff United. 4/9 at Paddy Power is generous given the strength of the respective sides.
