Friday Night Football
Liverpool vs Everton:
A game that Liverpool really don’t need (particularly considering their problems at this time of year twelve months ago,) in a competition that Big Sam has no track record of taking seriously. Yet it is a derby, its live on the telly on a Friday night, so at the very least, both Klopp and Allardyce are going to have to pretend they are interested. Previous meetings in this competition have been enough to see off Kenny Dalglish and whoever was in charge of cutting to adverts on ITV, but those were back in the days when this tournament meant something. 2-1 Liverpool is 15/2 with Ladbrokes, and that should be enough to keep both sets of fans happy.
Manchester United vs Derby County
Having watched United humbled by Bristol City before Christmas, the nation could be forgiven for wondering why, having sat through a myriad of crap United cup ties over the years, this one with a great deal of potential, is left unscreened. Bloody Lineker! Derby have been going well in the Championship, and in Gary Rowett have the next big thing in English managers, as soon as Eddie Howe is invited to do one from Bournemouth to free up the vacancy. Jose has far more to lose than win in this one, so he will have to field some big hitters. Take 1-0 United with Pogba to score, and the Magic Sign will pay you out at 33/1.
