4 to Watch

Mens 100m Final:

French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre is the reigning champion from 2012 in Helsinki, but our tip at 4/1 with Ladbrokes is James Dasaolu, who ran 9.91 last season to become the second fastest British sprinter of all time. Watch out too for Dwain Chambers, in what should be his last major championships ever. A career wasted – can he save the best til last. Chambers might be worth an e/w punt.

Mens 10,000m Final:

‘MO AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL’ shrieked the back page of yesterday’s Currant Bun, and although old Farah would have had to head to hospital for a completely different reason to match the big sports story of the week, ignore Mo’s fitness doubts at your peril. Don’t forget – the Mobotmeister also collapsed at the end of the New York marathon earlier this year. Tonight’s final will be only his second race since the London Marathon in April where he struggled. It may be too soon to write off Farah for good, but even in this weak (and white) field, he must still be a lay on Betfair.

Mens Long Jump:

After a triumph at the Commonwealth Games, Greg Rutherford is back, although he has pretty much admitted he isn’t over-fussed what happens in Zurich. Keep an eye then on the defending champion Christian Reif at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

Womens 400m:

If athletics fans liked a sing-song like football fans do, one might be tempted to say that Christine Ohuruogo ‘wins when it matters.’ Does this matter? Probably enough, which is why we like her to hold off Italy’s Libania Grenot, and triumph, despite barely running the 400m individual for over a year. Back her at 4/6 with Paddy Power.
