Europa League Final 2013

Whilst Chelsea have spent the season singing “we know what we are, we know what we are, Champions of Europe, we know what we are” it won’t quite feel the same as what happened in Munich, if they overcome Benfica on Wednesday evening. An inferior tournament it most certainly is – where the likes of Swansea and Wigan will cut their cloth next year, but nevertheless trophy mad Benitez will love another cup triumph.
Whilst Chelsea celebrated being back in the Champions League with victory over the weekend, Benfica suffered a huge blow, going down 2-1 at Porto for their first domestic league defeat of the season which has handed their rivals the initiative in the title race. You can’t but think that’ll have some effect on the Portuguese.
Both sides have played eight games in the Europa League this season, with Chelsea’s matches featuring both sides scoring in six of the eight games, whilst Benfica’s games have seen the two teams scoring on five occasions. We think it’s a likely outcome this time in an entertaining affair. Back both sides scoring at 4/5 with Bet365.
Three of the last finals have needed extra time and there’s every chance that’ll happen again here with two evenly matched teams. We think there’s some value in the draw in 90 minutes at 23/10 with Bet365, whilst 2-2 is a tempting 14/1 at Ladbrokes.
It’s only been a season since the two sides met in the Champions League quarter-finals and The Blues came out on top, winning 3-1 on aggregate and we can’t see Benfica stopping Benitez adding the 2012/13 Europa League to his CV even if it takes 120 minutes or penalties. Back the Blues at 1.74 on Betfair to lift the trophy.
