Real Madrid vs Liverpool
Much has been made of Brendan Rogers’ likely resting of Stevie G ahead of this one, with sagacious newspaper pundits suggesting that nobody wants to be rested at the Bernebau. True on a personal level, but this is surely to miss the point. Whatever happens on Tuesday night, Liverpool will still qualify winning their last two matches (home to Basle and at the Bulgarian Champions), which even surely they can’t screw up. And if they don’t start winning in the league sharpish, 4th will be a distant pipe dream. Chelsea on Saturday is the big one, which is why Liverpool don’t have a cats in hell chance of getting anything from this. Lay the Reds at 15.5 with everything you own.
Arsenal vs Anderlecht
Despite a tonking in Dortmund, Arsenal should be comfortable in this group, where Gala and Anderlecht combined will probably not produce enough points to stop them from driving. Take the 2.04 on Arsenal at the -2 handicap that is available with our good friends at Betfair.
Manchester City vs CSKA Moscow
As with Liverpool and Arsenal, a stuttering start in now way rules City out altogether. Assuming Wednesday night’s fixtures both result in home wins, City would need to beat Roma away on Matchday 6 to qualify. Not easy of course, but eminently doable. Of course, problems for all these three English teams will come in the last 16, where a runners-up berth inevitably ensures a tie against Madrid, Barca or Bayern for our brave boys. Home win by the way at 1.27.
NK Maribor vs Chelsea
Don’t pretend you care. Away win to nil at 1.71.
