Nation busy washing their hair…
Well done Formula One. Not content with proposing that future British Grand Prix will take place inside Harrod’s or something, you now decide to schedule your showpiece race of the year, on the same day as a historic Wimbledon final. Well done indeed.
The fact that nobody at all will care come Sunday is a pity, given what a sensational F1 season it has been to date. It is almost as if Sky have been rigging it to guarantee some excitement in their first season showing the sport. That Fernando Alonso, an 80/1 shot at the start of the year, sits atop of the F1 Championship, shows just what a punters’ bonanza it has been. Silverstone should be another thrilling chapter – with lightning and heavy rain expected, it will be a compelling race. Fans of the safety car should prepare to get excited, and get their autograph books out (Ladbrokes offer 4/6 on it making an appearance at any time of the race.)
Much of what consistency there has been in F1 this season has come from Alonso and at 2.22 with Betfair to make the podium we want to back him this weekend. We’re not sure he’s the winner, but we can’t see him not being there or thereabouts spraying champagne everywhere.
The romantics amongst you will gaze towards SW19 and dream of the British double – Murray and Hamilton. Lewis is priced at 9/2 with our good friends at Ladbrokes and certainly stands a chance. He is 8/11 to hit the podium.
