Britain’s Got Talent Final 2011

Title proves ironic again

For those who think betting on reality tv is glorified guesswork, think again. An in depth-look at previous years contests can give vital clues as to which of our prized national talents will soon be on the triumphant road to international stardom Celebrity Big Brother.

In the four years since Britain’s Got Talent first soiled our screens, the final act performing on the night has twice been crowned winner. In the other two years, the winning acts have appeared 9th out of 10 (Diversity, 2009), and 7th out of 10 (George Sampson in 2008.) Performing near the end is a distinct advantage as the voting only opens once all the acts have been on, so don’t bet until you’ve seen the running order. Those fresh in the mind stand the best chance.

In addition, the four previous winners have all won their semi-finals. The five to keep an eye on therefore, are 12 year old singer Ronan Parke (10/11 favourite), boy band New Bounce (5/1), impressionist Les Gibson (22/1), singer Jai McDowell (8/1) whilst break-dancer Razy Gogonea is expected to hip and hop into the final on Friday night as the final semi-final winner – Razy is 8/1 to win overall with bet 365.

Dance and acrobatic acts have also done very well down the years. They’ve provided a 1-2 in 2010 and 2008 and a 1-4 in 2009. Two contestants this year fit that bill – James Hobley (only second in his semi) and Razy Gogonea. With 10/11 being too short on Ronan, I’m happy to back Razy, even before his semi-final tonight.
