Resilient Gunners Host Flakey Blues
It has been a topsy-turvy season. Who could have divined that it would be Arsenal – reliable, defensively-resilient (apart from at the Etihad) – who lead the table in the run up to Christmas? And even more surprisingly, who could have guessed that a Mourinho-managed Chelsea of all teams would be frail at the back, unable to get that killer second goal, and thus forever conceding late equalisers/winners. Well the two flawed beasts meet in the final match before Christmas this Monday, in what could be the most significant fixture of the season so far. A Chelsea defeat could prove fatal for their title hopes, whereas a win would take them above the Arse, and possibly top.
Previous Wenger-Mourinho affairs have always bent towards the Portugese. But in this season of all seasons, we fancy the tide to turn, and Wenger’s men to enjoy victory. Chelsea’s ageing backline will be unable to deal with Arsenal’s movement in and around the penalty area, so we expect Ozil, Walcott and Giroud to cause tika-taka mayhem. Get involved in 2-0 Arsenal with Ladbrokes, available at 12/1.
We also have a sneaky feeling that with Olivier Giroud looking tired, good old Nicklas Bendtner will arrive onto the field at some point, ludicrous ponytail and all. Has it been a crazy enough season for the big Dane to score a big goal in a big match? It has indeed – take Bendtner to score last in this match at 8/1 with the aforementioned magic sign.
