Yaya’s Coming Home…
Full stadiums, brilliant goalkeeping and perfect weather conditions are just some of the many recollections that won’t feature when historians have their verdict on the African Cup of Nations 2012. The final has arrived amidst a backdrop of empty seats, and even the conclusion of the tournament is expected to be witnessed by a lightly-populated stadium.
Those who can be bothered to show up will watch two sides appearing in their third final. Zambia will be looking for their first success having failed in both 1974 and 1994 whilst the ‘Elephants’ will hope to repeat their 1992 triumph.
Ivory Coast are a best priced 1.26 (on Betfair) to lift the trophy, with Zambia out at 4.8. With little value to be had there, we’ve looked elsewhere for our tips.
The Cote d’ivoire have yet to concede in the tournament, and as the final is usually a tight affair (just five goals in the last five finals) under 2.5 goals looks a sound investment. That is backable at 1/2 with bet365.
Equally, the popular betting market allowing you to bet on both teams to score presents great value. In only three of the last 13 finals have both sides found the net, so the widely available 4/7 on offer is pretty tempting for us.
At a price of 4/1 we’ll also make a small play on 1-0 to the Ivory Coast. It might not be pretty, but their Premier League quality should prevail.
