Average news journalist guidelines to Olympic coverage (cut n paste):
“Olympic lanes for the elite…travel chaos…awful weather…corporate sponsors…fat children…pepsi shirts…tickets to the rich…outrageous abuse of taxpayers money…think how many hospitals…what about the rest of the country?”
Average sports journalist guidelines to Olympic coverage (cut n paste):
“Summer of our lives…wonderful new travel infrastructure…glorious sunshine…children inspired…end the obesity crisis…packed stadiums…a Games for all of Britain…ten things you didn’t know about Steve Redgrave.”
It will be great! It will be rubbish! Chances are, it will fall somewhere between the two. You’re probably sick of it all already and it hasn’t even begun. Well fear not – here is one London 2012 article that is actually useful – 4 bets for a fortnight of fun in London.
1. Yohan Blake to win the 100m (2.92 at Betfair.) The fastest man in the world this year should ensure the abdication of Bolt from his 100m crown, leaving the great man to focus on 200m, and perhaps in future, the 400.
2. The Queen to light the Olympic flame (33/1 at Ladbrokes.) Amidst the unseemly spectre of Daley Thompson teasing Sir Redgrave that he has no divine right to light the 2012 beacon (perish the thought), Her Maj provides a politically neutral choice. And after all, everyone likes the queen.
3. Brazil to win the Beach Volleyball Gold medal (11/4 with Bet365.) Not a great price, but clutching the betting slip may provide an excuse to watch them in front of the missus.
4. Spain to win the Olympic football (5/2 with Bluesq.) They just win everything these days, ok!
