4 To Watch – the Open

Just don’t call it British.
Such is the parochial attitude to the rest of the world still held by certain members of the British establishment (i.e. those who run golf) that prefacing the word British in front of Open (and implying there are other ‘Opens’ in existence) will result in six of the best, and burnt buttocks. Nevertheless, here are four punts that even the most establishment of gentlemen will enjoy…
1) Justin Rose top Englishman – the man who broke through at an Open Championship has had very little joy at home ever since. The forgotten man of British golf in many ways has finished in the top ten seven times this season – we expect a big weekend from him at Royal Lytham and love the 6.2 Betfair offer.
2) Raphael Jacquelin to finish as top European – French and Open Championship go together as well as van der Velde and water. But don’t let that put you off this 38 year old from Lyon. Get involved at 15.5
3) Jason Dufner as top American. The boy Dufner has had two wins, a 2nd and a 4th place at the US Open in his last five outings. Having lost a play-off to Keegan Bradley at the PGA, his time may be now. 17s with Betfair to finish as the top Yank.
4) Louis Oosthuizen to win the Open Championship. 50 for a previous winner who always seems to contend at Majors is simply too big. He must be backed.
