Cash This Out…

What happens when a huge cash out occurs in a casino?

No seriously, this casino cam on board a cruise liner captures the moment it’s hit by a huge wave and literally brings down the house. I think you could say all bets were off.

Just who is ‘Sterling Brookes’?

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

A question we’ve been asked many times this past month here at Oggs has been ‘Who is Sterling Brookes?’. Well shall we reveal all about one of our favourite columnists? We asked Sterling for some words and here’s his reply. Enjoy.

STERLING BROOKES is a freelance racing journalist and punter, who has been fascinated by the ‘Sport of Kings’ since his father had a five bob win double on the first two favourites at Manchester racecourse many years ago.

He goes racing at least once a week and feels it is essential to see the horses close up and personal as well as being able to sample the atmosphere and feel the excitement of the racecourse.

When not at the races, he watches on ATR or RUK and feels we are blessed to have two dedicated racing channels.

Brookes bets very selectively , mainly in maiden races on the Flat and novice events over hurdles and fences and is especially keen on all-weather racing.

He ran a syndicate which owned a two-year-old winner and has owned several successful greyhounds.

Manchester-born, he now lives in London with his wife and four children and is a keen follower of Manchester City and Lancashire cricket club.

End.

So there you have it from Sterling Brookes’ mouth and not the horse’s. Win a London Pad – UK’s Largest Free Draw – Wow!

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

The UK’s largest free draw was announced this week between a property company and Great Ormond Street Hospital offering not one or even two, but eight luxury apartments as one prize, ‘Win a London Pad’ worth a wopping £8 million plus!

With odds better than the UK National Lottery, entrants are asked to purchase a £60 MP4 player and answer 3 questions to take part. Great Ormond Street Hospital receives £3 from each of the 200,000 tickets expected to be sold before next March and that equates to £600,000 for the GOSH charity.

The competition is aiming to raise enough money to fund the construction of a purpose built 4 bed ward in the Cardiac Daycare unit.

Hard times for the property industry, but a novel and innovative way to raise funds for a charity too. Worth a gamble? Well 200,000-1 for such a large prize is tempting and hey, you get a 4GB MP4 player and you feel a bit goes to charity, but to me that’s it, it’s just a ‘bit’ and the property company realises its investment and probably makes a profit.

Would be nice to see the charity get a better cut of the action if its lending its well respected name.

Is it the ‘Land of the Free’ anymore?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Microgaming turned off the US online casino player tap and another major, well respected gaming provider waved farewell to America for what could be a long wait before the US Government does a u-turn and allows online casinos and poker rooms back for its ‘free’ citizens. In the ‘Land of the Free’ it seems that protectionist measures make them all, but ‘free’ to lead their lives how they wish or spend their money as they see fit.

The election of Barack Obama isn’t a shoe-horn for multilateral change. The Democrats and Republicans all have their supporters of the ban on internet gambling, especially when it is provided by off-shore businesses. The State of Kentucky even has gone so far as to seize 141 online casino internet domain names as their own, but letting of course its own Kentucky Derby racecourse owner’s “TwinSpires.com“ through the net. What seems a pious move looks just like politics and business and nothing else.

So what now for many American players wanting an online casino to play at? Well hope is not all lost, even though many States are barred from most of the online casino and online poker services there are still some left to play at, such as “iNetBet Casino“, “Club-USA Casino”, “Rushmore Casino“, “Cherry Red Casino”. How long these will accept US players online is a matter of conjecture. The gaming businesses themselves are turning their eyes to Europe and Asia. Regulation by governments abroad is more enlightened and those that are proactive are realising there is greater control via regulation and a bonus of taxing what is a natural pastime for so many people. People have gambled for centuries, the Internet is just another medium for them to use; one that also offers help, assistance and information that gamblers find hard to know anywhere else.

Microgaming software-based Online Casinos to no longer accept US players

Friday, November 7th, 2008

VERY IMPORTANT – USA RESIDENTS  –  Microgaming software-based online casinos will no longer accept US players after November 9th 2008. Players who have registered accounts on or before the 9th November will be able to continue playing. Therefore I would suggest registering at a few NOW before it’s too late, even if you aren’t sure if you will play there for real. From November 10th 2008, no online casinos using Microgaming software will accept your registration. “

Online casinos Rushmore and Cherry Red, plus a few other US online casino operators will be the few left covering the US market as more and more online casino operators shun the US due to its protectionist policies and laws.
