Now call me boring, but I've never been a great fan of 3-reel vegas style slot games. Give me the
video slots any day of the week.
But that said, I have to admit, the online casinos seem to churn them out month after month and to be fair
the odd one crops up that gets me interested. I guess the major difference, aside from the number of
reels and paylines obviously, is that the "3-reelers" tend to give you far more bang for your buck and
generally require a less hefty bankroll if you're looking for a faster, though often smaller, profit
than the video slots provide.
Back in the "old days" of online gaming, we had somewhat basic offerings such as
Fantastic 7's and the rather
long-in-the-tooth
Flying Ace slot.
Even today we see a lot of clones of these but some are now starting to come with a twist: take the
Megaspin Fantastic 7's
offering where you play 10 games simultaneously. Or the newer "bonus round" 3 reel slot designed
to keep you interested. Examples here include
Sizzling Scorpions where every now and
again you enter a scorpion race for extra cash, or the recognisable format of the
Spectacular Wheel Of
Wealth where, surprise surprise, you get a wheel of wealth to spin every now and again awarding
random prizes depending on it's mood. But while these add a little more pleasure to the
online slots experience, it doesn't stop the 3 reel slots from getting a little tiresome after a while and
for me personally, if I'm going to play a 3-reel casino slot, then it might as well be one of the
Progressive Jackpot slots
with a decent jackpot to hit!
If I'm going to dabble on these vegas style 3 reel slots, it tends to be with the ones offering a bonus feature
or the megaspin variety. The
Megaspin
High 5 slot is another in the series, and of course it comes in the single spin variety if you prefer. I've
seen some good wins from the single-spin slots such as
Jurassic Jackpot and
Jackpot Express but mainly from
other players, and I know they have their fans out there. The aforementioned slots all appear on the Microgaming
software platform which is tops for graphics, but obviously these vegas style slots also crop up at the
other casinos, though perhaps not with quite the same panache. I know that slots such as
Lovebugs on the Crypto platform
have their moments, but they are just not quite the same.
Still despite all this, the vegas style slot remains popular at online casinos and additionally, the
expected payouts do generally exceed those of the land-based casinos so it's not all bad. Add to the fact
that wins on this style of slot seem to be more regular than on the fancier bonus slots, and all said and
done, there is still some good entertainment value to be had. More power to them!
